There was a time when Intel was seen as a monarch in personal computing. The “Intel Inside” sticker was a badge of honor on millions of PCs during the late 90s and 2000s. For most, it was a sign of strength, and bleeding-edge tech. Intel had reign on the CPU market, and that dominance had seemed unshakeable. But Intel’s dominance has been at stake for the last decade, and now, it’s even open to a potential sell of its business as a whole. How did a brand that once dominated the CPU space find itself in such dire straits?

The Definitive Golden Era

The 2000s saw personal computing explode into the mainstream consciousness. PCs stopped being just business-use machines but had now become essential for homes, schools, and gaming enthusiasts alike. Right at the center of such a boom was Intel, driving the revolution in computing with their x86 processors, giving the world iconic lines of processors such as the Pentium and Core.
